Privacy Policy
Data Collection & Roles
- MMP as Controller: MMP collects data necessary to manage accounts (Name, Email) and improve search experiences (Preferred Modalities/Location). MMP does not collect or store Credit Card info, Social Security Numbers, or official transcripts.
- Data from Visitors Without an Account: Some features collect personal data from visitors who never create an account. Requesting a course submits an email address, city/state, chosen modalities, and any description entered; subscribing to the newsletter submits an email address; unlocking a listing's contact details submits an email address. These are used to fulfill the request and to send the course and education updates described at the point of collection.
- Approximate Location: To sort listings by distance, MMP looks up an approximate location (city and region) from the visitor's IP address using a third-party service, ipapi.co. MMP does not request or receive a precise device location.
- Third-Party Services on the Site: A few providers necessarily receive a visitor's IP address as part of serving their request: ipapi.co for the location lookup above, OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service for address search in listing forms, Google Fonts for web fonts, and YouTube (in privacy-enhanced mode) where a listing embeds an intro video. MMP does not share account data with them.
- Educators as Independent Controllers: Once a student clicks an external link, that Educator becomes the data controller. MMP is not responsible for how Educators handle data on their proprietary sites.
International Data Transfers and User Rights (GDPR/CCPA)
MMP utilizes standard encryption and legal frameworks to protect data transferred across borders to facilitate global listings.
- Specific User Data Rights: MMP acknowledges and supports the rights of users in jurisdictions like the EU (GDPR) and California (CCPA). Users have the right to:
- Access their collected personal data.
- Request the deletion of their personal data.
- Request correction/rectification of inaccurate data.
- Opt-out of the sale or sharing of their personal information.
- Exercising Your Rights: To exercise any of these rights, email MMP at contact@massagemp.com. Access, correction, deletion, and opt-out requests are handled by MMP directly through this channel; the site does not currently offer a self-service tool for them.
- Cookies and Local Storage: MMP does not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies, and does not sell personal information. The site stores only what it needs to function, including:
- A session cookie that keeps signed-in users logged in to their account.
- A security cookie carrying the token that protects form submissions against cross-site request forgery.
- A cookie recording that the one-time welcome message has been dismissed.
- A cookie recording that a visitor has unlocked contact details on listing pages, so they are not asked for their email again.
- Browser local storage flags that remember a newsletter signup, a course request, or the dismissal of a promotional banner.
- The approximate location described above, held in session storage for the remainder of the browsing session so it is not looked up repeatedly.
Third-Party Links
The website contains links to external sites. MMP is not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties and encourages users to read their specific privacy statements.
